We really wanted was to make a sort of build-in industrial shelving unit for our living room. A bit Pottery Barn-ish and maybe with a dash of Restoration Hardware. So my solution was to buy the Hyllis units from Ikea. Super cheap, industrial looking for sure, but not very sturdy. For this job we used four units. In order to get the shelves just as we wanted, we decided to turn each shelf

With the additional shelves secured, the unit becomes much more stable. However, I still secured the unit to the wall, just in case.

It just needed a little hack to make it look pretty and add some utility.
